Funeral Services Announced For Leesburg Mayor Ed Mackey

edmackeyMr. Edward Mackey age 72 of Leesburg passed away Thursday August 13th at his residence.

Funeral services will be 3 PM Sunday August 16th at Centre First Baptist Church, with Rev. Melvyn Salter and Dr. David Lee officiating, burial will follow in Mackey Cemetery. The body will lie-in-state at the church one hour prior to service. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 PM Saturday.

Pallbearers include Lanny Ransum, Scott Walker, Glenn Pentecost, Bron Bolton, Terry Stephens, Caleb Ransum, Landon Ransum, Josh Hunter and Leon Fife. Honorary Pallbearers will be Leesburg Town Council and all employees of the Town of Leesburg.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Wester Mackey of Leesburg; son, Shannon Mackey of Leesburg; daughters, Sherri (David) Torstrick of Louisville, Ky. and Shelia (Craig) Huey of Fairhope; sister-in-law and brother- in-law Paulette andTerrellRansum of Leesburg; sister-in-law, June Mackey; grandchildren, Maya and Zora Mackey, Sarah and Jodie Torstrick and Spencer and Alexandria Huey; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Mackey was preceded in death by his son, Randall Mackey and brother, Millard Mackey.

Mr. Mackey was a native of Cherokee County and the son of the late Newman Edward and Elsie Tillery Mackey Sr. He was a member of Centre First Baptist Church. He was on his 4th term as Mayor of Leesburg, Past President of Lions Club and active member of the Chamber of Commerce. He was instrumental in reorganizing Leesburg Fire Department and served as Fire Chief for 8 years.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Children Advocacy Center of Cherokee County P O Box 587 Centre, Al.
