Gadsden Attorney James Shelnutt Releases Statement Defending Former Rainbow City Police Captain Chase Jenkins

James ShelnuttGadsden based Attorney James Shelnutt of the Shelnutt Law Firm has released at statement via Social Media on behalf of former Rainbow City Police Captain Chase Jenkins, who Shelnutt is representing.

Jenkins was arrested on Saturday on charges of 1st Degree Sodomy stemming from an incident that took place while he was off duty, Jenkins and his legal counsel have adamantly proclaimed that he is innocent.

Shellnutt says in his statement that there is no allegation that Jenkins did anything wrong in his capacity as a police officer, no allegations that there was any child involved and no allegations that there are any other persons involved other than the accuser.

Shellnutt said that as of Thursday afternoon, Jenkins remains at the Etowah County Jail. A bond hearing was held Thursday morning, the District Attorney’s Office argued against setting a bond even though he has no violent history, no threats have been made and even after acknowledging that Jenkins dedicated his career to protecting people.

A ruling from that hearing is expected sometime either Friday or on Monday.
