Gadsden Man Arrested Following A Vehicle Pursuit That Began In Leesburg

A Gadsden man is behind bars following a vehicle pursuit in Leesburg on Wednesday night.

According to Investigator Jamie Chatman with the Leesburg Police Department, the chase began on 411 South near Slackland when Chatman clocked a silver car with no tag traveling at a high rate of speed.

The chase went into Etowah County on 411 where Centre Police, Etowah County deputies and Gadsden Police joined in.

The driver lost control on 411 and went down a steep embankment into a flooded out ditch near Hooks Lake Road in north Gadsden, he then fled on foot and was tased by Chatman following a brief foot pursuit and was taken into custody.

30 year old D’Anthony Ta’Vorres Smith of Gadsden was booked in at Cherokee County Detention Center on charges of Attempting to Elude, Resisting Arrest, Carrying a Pistol without a Permit, Possession of a Pistol by a violent Felon and Selling Prohibited Liquors. Chatman also learned that Smith was out on bond for capital murder. A loaded pistol was also recovered.

Smith remains behind bars on an $8,500 bond.
