Gadsden Man Arrested in Cherokee County Following High Speed Chase During Early Morning Hours of Friday

A Gadsden man was taken into custody at around 2:00am Friday in the Spring Garden area, after failing to elude Cave Spring Police and Cherokee County Deputy Dalton Cosby.  Sheriff Jeff Shaver said Deputy Cosby joined the pursuit as it entered Alabama on Highway 411 and continued down County Road 33 and Highway 278 before ending on County Road 643.

The driver, identified as 57 year old Joie Lana Gowens, was driving a 1998 Ford Ranger that had been stolen in Tallapoosa, Georgia.  Deputy Cosby placed Gowens under arrest, charging him with first degree receiving stolen property, attempting to elude, resisting arrest, violation of the prohibition law, and several traffic-related offenses.  He was also arrested on existing warrants for probation violation and failure to appear on a theft of property charge.

He was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center – where he currently remains
