One individual has been charged with a drug related trafficking offense in Etowah County, according to Deputy Commander Phil Sims. 21 year old Melic Leonard, of Gadsden is charged with trafficking in a synthetic substance (spice). Total bond was set at $10,000 bond.
On Monday, Agents executed a search warrant at a local motel in Gadsden. The search warrant was based on drug sales from the room. After the room was secured, agents found Leonard in the parking lot on the opposite side of the motel where he was taken into custody. During the search of the room, agents found approximately one pound of spice and digital scales. Also, agents found approximately 61 grams of spice in Leonard’s front pocket.
Agents recovered a small bag suspected to contain flakka, a synthetic drug. Further charges could be forthcoming related to the suspected flakka pending toxicology reports from the state lab. Leonard was transported to the Etowah County Detention Center without incident where he remains under bond.
