Gadsden Man Charged with DUI and Causing Two Accidents After Fleeing from Police Monday Night in Cherokee County

An Etowah County man remains in the Cherokee County Detention Center, facing a number of charges, after striking a car on Highway 411 on the four-lane near Garrett Tire at around 10:00 Monday night.

According to Leesburg Police Department Investigator Jamie Chatman, after hitting the car, the subject continued at a high rate of speed, and shortly thereafter, struck an 18-wheeler – shredding parts of the motor home he was driving across the four-lane.

The man finally came to a stop at Park Street; fortunately no one was hurt during the entire incident.

According to Investigator Chatman, the driver was found to be drunk.

Sixty-one year old Nickolas Alto Green of Gadsden was placed under arrest at the scene and charged with DUI, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Reckless Driving, Speeding, Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance, Improper Lane Usage and Failure to Register Vehicle.

His bond has yet to be set.

Leesburg Police were assisted by Centre Police and Alabama State Troopers, with members of the Leesburg Fire Department helping to clear debris from the roadway.
