A 41 year old Gadsden man is behind bars in Etowah County after being turned in by family members for allegedly raping a five year old girl.
According to jail records, Shelton Samuel Welch was taken into custody on Saturday and he stands accused of committing the act at a home on Tabor Road. That incident was reported to law enforcement officials by family members. Bond has been set at $400,000 and as a condition of bond, Welch is not allowed to have any contact with a minor under the age of 18.
