Gadsden Man Charged With Trafficking Meth After Attempting To Elude Officers In Gadsden

One individual has been arrested for drug related charges in Etowah County, according to Commander Randall Johnson. Billy Jerome Brooks, 37, of Gadsden, was charged with six counts of Drug Trafficking, Possession of Marijuana 1stDegree, Receiving Stolen Property 2ndDegree, and Possession of a Pistol by a Violent Felon, and Attempting to Elude. Brooks was arrested following a lengthy criminal investigation involving the trafficking of methamphetamine in Etowah County.

Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit agents executed a search warrant on Wilbanks Avenue in Gadsden, AL. The criminal investigation involved the seizure of nearly a pound of methamphetamine, a quantity of marijuana, $480.00, and a stolen firearm.

Brooks was taken into custody on July 8, 2020 for Drug Trafficking, and bonded out on a $100,000 surety bond. Brooks was arrested again on July 9, 2020 on felony warrants for Drug Trafficking, Possession of a Pistol by Violent Felon, and Possession of Marijuana 1stDegree.

Agents observed Brooks traveling down State Street, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the bike he was operating. Brooks attempted to flee from the agents, but ran off the road crashing into a chain link fence. Brooks then attempted to run on foot away from the agents. Brooks was taken into custody near Martin Avenue in Gadsden, AL. Agents recovered nearly five ounces of methamphetamine that Brooks had thrown while fleeing from agents.

Brooks was cleared by medics on the scene, arrested and is currently being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on a $752,500 surety-bond. The Possession of a Pistol by a Violent Felon charge was based on prior felony convictions for Drug Distribution.

This investigation is still ongoing and the subject could face additional state and federal charges related to the firearm and drugs seized.
