After 35 years on the job, August 25 could have been a Gadsden man’s last shift for AT&T if it weren’t for some Gadsden police officers.
Danny Day collapsed while retrieving cable. His hard hat came off as he fell to the ground, and Day hit his head and began to bleed profusely.
Two police officers, Josh Russell and Jason Coffman, were on patrol on Forrest Avenue. They drove past Day at just the right time.
Officer John Hallman responded to the call and began to help as well.
Russell said Day briefly began breathing but then stopped again. Coffman continued doing chest compressions and Day regained consciousness. Paramedics arrived to continue treatment and take Day to Riverview Regional Medical Center.
AT&T presented a $1,000 check, in honor of the three officers, as a donation to Cornerstone Ranch. Coffman said the officers chose the Gardendale-based charity because of its work with underprivileged and at-risk children.
