Gadsden State Cherokee Student Receives Culberson Scholarship

Gadsden State Community College student Chrysan Griffin from Cedar Bluff was recently awarded the distinguished Jerry L. Culberson Nursing Scholarship.

The scholarship award for the amount of $2,500 is for the 2014/2015 term.

Griffin, a non-traditional student attending Gadsden State Cherokee, enjoys working with people and loves learning the skills associated with nursing.  A mother of two young children, she also maintains a full-time job while attending school full-time.  Griffin’s Biology instructor, Frances Vann, describes her as having a positive attitude and a pleasure to teach.  “Her grades were excellent and her work ethic just as stellar,” Vann said.

The Jerry L. Culberson Nursing Scholarship was established by the Cherokee County Health Authority in 2012.  This partial tuition scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving nursing student attending Gadsden State Cherokee.  Recipients of the scholarship must have demonstrated academic excellence by maintaining a GPA of 3.0 in all courses attempted and completed toward the nursing degree and show financial need.
