Gadsden State Circle K Receives Awards

Gadsden State Community College Circle K members were recipients of several awards at the state conference held recently in Auburn.  The group received a first place award in Kiwanis Family Relations for working with Kiwanis and other sponsored programs such as Key Club and Aktion Club.  In addition, they received a first place award in the Kiwanis Club Support Category.  They received a second place award in four categories including Service Poster, Talent Competition, Scrapbook, and Single Service Project.

Circle K International is a service organization for students formed to help the community through various service projects.  The parent service organization is Kiwanis International.  Gadsden State Circle K sponsor Dr. Glenda Selman said, “We are very proud of our club for the service they perform in our community, their presence at the state level competition, and for setting good examples for others to follow.” Selman has been the sponsor for the group since 1985.

Gadsden State was the only two-year college participating in the Circle K International State Convention which was attended by various four-year institutions including the University of Alabama, Auburn University, and Jacksonville State University.

Dr. Bill Blow, acting president of Gadsden State, praised the group by saying, “Our Circle K has consistently been active in the community for many years.  This is a wonderful way for our students to grow and foster compassion for others through service and leadership.  We are pleased that these students have accomplished so much in the spirit of helping others.”
