Gadsden State Gives Back to Communities

GSCC LogoCommunity supporters, faculty, staff and students of Gadsden State Community College are encouraged to participate in two worthy drives over the next several months to support children, adults, area shelters and mission centers locally and around the world.

The TRIO of Success Club comprised of students in GSCC’s Student Support Services will host Operation Christmas Child through the Samaritan’s Purse International Relief organization.  Students will be collecting toys, supplies and monetary donations for a shoebox gift for needy children through Nov. 10. A packing party will be held Nov. 14 at noon in Inzer Student Center.

The kick off of the TRIO Club’s Project Recycling in coordination with the city of Gadsden is also underway. The “Gadsden Recycles” bins will be located at Inzer Hall and Fowler Hall on the Wallace Drive Campus to collect cardboard only at this time.  A recycling expansion is proposed for the project over the next year.  For more information call 256-549-8208 or email cfoster-cates@gadsdenstate.edu.

The Electrical Technology Department will hold its annual drive to collect new or mildly-used coats and jackets for children and adults.  The drive kicked off in October and will conclude Jan. 15, 2017.  To date, the group has collected over 2,600 coats, jackets and sweaters for area shelters, mission centers and students.  Items may be dropped off at the Ayers Campus Electrical Tech (Tony Thrower), ATN-Gadsden/Bevill Center (Angela Ross), East Broad Campus Electrical Tech (Deb Reynolds), Gadsden State Cherokee (Luanne Hayes), Valley Street Campus (Frances Hall) or the Wallace Drive Campus Maintenance Building (Kathy Kendrick).
