Gadsden State To Host High School SkillsUSA® Competition

Gadsden, Ala.–Gadsden State Community College will host the Alabama SkillsUSA Northeast District Conference for secondary education March 16. The Northeast District includes Blount, Cherokee, Cullman, DeKalb, Etowah, Jackson, Madison, Marshall and Morgan counties.

Two students from each of the Career Technology Centers located in these counties will compete in the district competition. The Top 5 students chosen from each district will advance to compete at the state level with the first-place winner in the state contest competing for national honors in June. 

During the day, students will participate in a variety of leadership and occupationally-related competitions that include job interview, job skill demonstrations, quiz bowl, extemporaneous speaking and prepared speech.   

Skilled and technical competitions include automotive service, carpentry, cosmetology, electrical wiring, electronics, diesel equipment, technical drafting and welding.  The competitions will take place on the East Broad and Valley Street campuses.
