Gadsden State to host Manufacturing Day October 6th & 7th

Robotics Lab 2Gadsden State students have the opportunity to learn about the robotics industry in state-of-the-art labs located on the East Broad campus, pictured, and the Ayers Campus.

The Consortium for Alabama’s Regional Center for Automotive Manufacturing and Gadsden State Community College are hosting two events for National Manufacturing Day.

The first event is slated for Oct. 6 on the Ayers Campus with the second event being Oct. 7 at the Bevill Center on the East Broad Campus. Students from local high school Career Technical Education programs will be bused on campus to tour the Alabama Robotics Technology Park’s Mobile Lab and Gadsden State’s state-of-the-art advanced manufacturing labs.

“The Mobile Lab is a hands-on instructional tool that is used by RTP to create awareness and interest within communities about careers in robotics,” said Tim Green, Gadsden State’s dean of technical programs. “It’s also an avenue to pique curiosity among students about lucrative technical jobs available in industry today.”

Gadsden State students have the opportunity to learn in labs equipped with industry-standard equipment including a Robotics Lab, 3D Printer and Auto CAD Lab, Manufacturing Lab, Instrumentation Lab and a PLC Lab.

“Students participating in Manufacturing Day will see that Gadsden State has the technology and equipment to develop them into skilled engineering technicians with career opportunities in several automated manufacturing occupations,” he said.

Manufacturing Day on both campuses is being organized by Gadsden State’s career coaches. High School students will participate from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Gadsden State students, faculty and staff as well as community members interested in robotics are invited to visit the Mobile Lab and the College’s manufacturing labs from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on both days.

“The Manufacturing Days on our campuses are a celebration of modern manufacturing,” Green said. “We want to inspire the next generation.”
