Gadsden Woman Charged with Drug Trafficking

A woman who was on Community Corrections for a previous drug conviction, found herself back behind bars after refusing to pull over for an Etowah County Deputy on West Meighan Boulevard.

Deputy Dakota Grant attempted to stop the vehicle driven by 26 year old Gadsden resident, Amber Grace Machen – when she sped away, leading officers on a brief chase, before finally coming to a stop in Attalla.  Once out of the vehicle, she physically resisted law enforcement as they were trying to place her under arrest,

She was allegedly found to be in possession of 41 grams of suspected methamphetamine.

Machen is being held in the Etowah County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond, charged with drug trafficking, attempting to elude and resisting arrest.

Stephen McGlathery with the Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit, says that Machen had pled guilty back in April to Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine and was sentenced to 10 years in prison; that sentence was converted to the community corrections diversion program.

A motion is now underway to revoke her alternative sentencing from the case.

She has multiple previous arrests, including Obstructing Justice, Chemical Endangerment of a Child and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

McGlathery said the investigation is on-going and more charges could be filed.
