Garden girls earn 57-42 win at Plainview

RAINSVILLE – Ace Austin led three Spring Garden Lady Panthers in double figures with 15 points in a 57-42 girls basketball win at Plainview on Tuesday.

Austin also had six rebounds, six assists, three steals and a blocked shot for Class 2A, No. 2 Spring Garden (26-2). After rehabbing a hamstring injury for a week, Neely Welsh scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds. Lexy Adkison added 10 points, 12 boards and a pair of steals.

Abbey Steward connected on three treys and finished with nine points. Sarah Kate McKay and Maggie Jarrett both finished with five points. McKay also had five rebounds, two steals and an assist. Jarrett grabbed seven boards and blocked a shot.

The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 22-7 first quarter lead and held a 40-18 advantage at halftime. Spring Garden led 48-31 after three quarters.

Boys

Plainview 100, Spring Garden 66

RAINSVILLE – Despite connecting on 14 3-pointers, Class 2A, No. 8 Spring Garden fell at Class 3A, No. 4 Plainview 100-66 on Tuesday night.

Weston Kirk connected on six 3-pointers and led Spring Garden (17-8) with 22 points. He also had nine rebounds and a pair of assists.

Cooper Austin added three treys and had 15 points. He also had four boards, an assist and a steal. Chaz Pope posted a pair of treys and had 14 points. He also had nine rebounds and six assists.

Plainview led throughout the game. The Bears held a 20-17 advantage at the end of the first quarter and a 52-36 edge at halftime. Plainview held an 82-54 lead at the end of the third quarter.
