Garland Leon Smith age 79 of Centre passed away Sunday January 3rd at Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Tuesday January 5th at Perry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chip Smith, Rev. Lynn Hughston and Rev. Melvyn Salter officiating, burial will follow in Cherokee Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers include Travis “Shorty” West, Trai West, Myles West, Donnie England, Edward Smith, Hollis Steed, Kevin Turner, Chris Hampton and Jimmy Poe. Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry Russell, Todd Russell, Jeff Ingram, Joey West, Michael Smith, Chris Smith, Brent Smith, Kenneth Smith and Adrian Bouchillon.
Survivors include daughters, Stephanie “Shorty” West of Centre and Stacy Smith of Centre; sisters-in-law, Martha Smith of Cullman and Jean Devore of The Villages, Fl.; and two grandchildren, Trai and Myles West.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Myra Smith; brothers, infant Oliver Smith, Charles Farrell Smith, Harlan Oliver Smith, Jerry Wayne Smith; sister, Audrey Ruth.
Mr. Smith was a native of Etowah County and the son of the late Emmanuel Oliver and Sarah Lona England Smith. He was pastor or East Centre Baptist Church for 20 years and served as EMA Director for Cherokee County for 25 years.
