Gaylesville holds off Coosa Christian, 20-17

GADSDEN – The Gaylesville Trojans held on for a 20-17 Class 1A, Region 7 football victory at Coosa Christian on Friday night.

Senior running back Jacob Gordon gained 81 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns for the Trojans (3-1, 2-0). Fellow senior running back Michael Reynolds also accounted for 81 yards on 18 totes.

Junior quarterback Tanner Eads threw for 97 yards on seven completions, including a 55-yard touchdown connection to junior fullback Keylon Higgins. Eads also accounted for a 2-point conversion pass to Brayden Sharp.

Higgins was the Trojans’ top receiver, with three catches for 69 yards. He also posted four tackles on defense, including one for loss, with an assist and forced a fumble.

Gordon made four tackles, including one for lost yardage, with an assist. Reynolds also had four tackles, including two for loss, with two assists and a fumble recovery.

Sharp, senior linebacker Hunter Penney, and freshman lineman Karrson Ray each made three stops on defense. Two of Sharp’s tackles went for loss. He also had an assist and a fumble recovery. Penney and Ray both had an assist and a fumble recovery.

Gaylesville travels to Valley Head on Friday. Coosa Christian (2-2, 1-1) hosts Appalachian.
