Gaylesville loses offensive shootout at Valley Head

VALLEY HEAD – Gaylesville junior fullback Keylon Higgins ran for 224 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. He also returned a kickoff 70 yards for a score, but they weren’t enough to lead the Trojans past Valley Head. They fell by the final of 64-42 in Class 1A, Region 7 football action on Friday.

Valley Head junior quarterback Eian Bain ran for four touchdowns and threw for another in the Tigers’ victory.

Bain finished with a game-high 250 yards rushing on 23 carries with four scores. He completed 2-of-7 pass attempts for 52 yards and a touchdown to Ashton Brown.

As a team, the Tigers (2-3, 2-1) compiled 457 yards in total offense.

The Tigers took the lead for good at the 3:05 mark of the second quarter when Bain ran in for a 2-yard score to make it 33-28. The following 2-point conversion run attempt by Brown was no good.

Bain hit Brown for a 14-yard scoring connection at the start of the second half extending Valley Head’s advantage to 39-28.

Gaylesville (3-2, 2-1) finished with 359 yards of offense (353 rushing). Michael Reynolds added 93 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries for the Trojans. He also had seven tackles, including one for loss, with four assists and forced a fumble.

Jacob Gordon ran for 30 yards on 10 carries. He also posted eight tackles, including three for loss, with an assist.

Seth Lee recovered a fumble and Hunter Allmond had an interception.

Gaylesville returns home on Friday to take on Asbury in non-region action. Valley Head travels to Ider.
