The newly implemented “Trojan Bucks” Program at Gaylesville School is now up and running and has had some major impacts on those students who participate.
Project coordinator Kandance Ballew says that students are given a specific amount of Bucks based upon how well they excel and perform in the classroom.
The students are then allowed to take their Trojan Bucks to a store affixed inside a designated classroom at the school and purchase items which have been donated by several business, municipalities and members of the community.
Ballew said that there is a specific section of the store for each age group throughout the school – the program was specifically designed to help teach kids the true value of a dollar and how to properly manage their money, or in this case “Trojan Bucks”.
Since the inception of the program, Ballew says that the school has seen a significant increase in test scores across the board in addition to a significant change in student behavior.
Student learning is the main priority at Gaylesville School , students are more likely to achieve success if they are provided with opportunities that are authentic and relative to their lives.
Teachers, parents, community leaders, and students work together to achieve academic success and to enable the students to become confident, self-directed, lifelong learners and that’s exactly what the Trojan Bucks Program is aimed toward.
