Gaylesville softball sweeps Coosa Christian

GAYLESVILLE – The Gaylesville Lady Trojans swept a softball doubleheader from visiting Coosa Christian on Thursday. The scores were 10-2 and 18-9.

In the first game, Delaney Coker pitched a complete game with five strikeouts. Shonda Epps went 3-for-3 at the plate, all doubles, with two RBIs. Chelsey Cagle was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Malaya Shireman had a double and two RBIs. Andreah Calvert and Anna Hartline both had doubles and a RBI. Peyton Bright and Emma Givens had a hit and a RBI.

In the second game, Coker was relieved by Shireman, who finished with five strikeouts. Sydney Smith and Gracie Dawson made their first varsity starts. Smith went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Dawson was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Sierra Holbrook went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Hartline was 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Epps went 3-for-4, all doubles, with two RBIs. Bright contributed a double, a triple and two RBIs. Shireman went 2-for-2 with a double and a RBI. Givens was 1-for-2 with a RBI, and Cagle finished with a hit.

Gaylesville hosts Collinsville this afternoon and will travel to Woodville on Saturday. The Lady Trojans conclude regular season play by hosting Jacksonville Christian on Monday and traveling to Southeastern on Thursday.
