Gaylesville’s season ends with loss to Woodville


GAYLESVILLE – The Gaylesville Trojans concluded their 2020 football season Friday night with a 38-20 loss to Class 1A, Region 7 foe Woodville.

Senior all-purpose back DJ Lee had another stellar statistical night for the Trojans (4-5, 2-4). He ran for 123 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown. He also passed for two scores to Kyler Bradley (2 yards) and Reece Holley (13 yards). On defense, Lee posted five tackles, including three for loss, with four assists.

Michael Reynolds added 77 yards on 14 carries. He also made six tackles with five assists on defense. Holley had seven tackles and three assists. Briley Mitchell finished with five tackles, including a tackle for loss, and an assist.

Woodville quarterback Jackson Peek ran for 217 yards and four touchdowns and threw for 76 yards and a 23-yard touchdown to Cam Talley, who also ran for 77 yards.

With the win, the Panthers (3-5, 3-2) clinched a playoff berth while knocking Gaylesville out of contention for the postseason. Woodville will be the No. 3 seed with a win over Appalachian next week or a Sumiton Christian loss to Valley Head.
