Gaylesville’s Shireman tosses one-hit softball shutout against Woodville

GAYLESVILLE – Malaya Shireman tossed a one-hit shutout, leading the Gaylesville softball team to an 11-0 win over visiting Woodville on Tuesday.

Shireman walked two and struck out six in the five-inning victory.

At the plate, Sierra Holbrook had a hit and a RBI. Emma Givens collected a pair of hits three RBIs. Chelsey Cagle also contributed a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs. Andreah Calvert had two hits. Charity Green added a hit and three RBIs. Anna Hartline had a hit and a RBI. Shonda Epps finished with a hit.

On Monday, Shireman hit her fifth home run of the season to tie the game, then Anna Hartline won it in the bottom of the seventh inning with a bases-loaded hit to cap a 9-8 softball win over Jacksonville Christian on Monday. The game was nightcap of a doubleheader. The Lady Trojans also won that one 14-4.

In the second game, Delaney Coker earned the win in the circle. She had a pair of strikeouts. Sierra Holbrook, Peyton Bright, Givens, Shireman, Cagle, Hartline and Epps each had hits for the Lady Trojans. Hartline finished with three RBIs. Givens and Shireman had two RBIs and Epps had a RBI.

In the first game, Holbrook connected on her fourth homer of the year on the first pitch. She finished with two RBIs. Bright collected three hits and two RBIs. Hartline and Cagle both had two hits and three RBIs. Epps also had two hits and two RBIs. Givens had a pair of hits and a RBI. Green added a pair hits and a RBI. Calvert finished with a hit.

Shireman earned the win after striking out six in five innings.

The Lady Trojans finish the regular season with a doubleheader at Southeastern on Thursday beginning at 5 p.m.
