Governor Ivey Declares Monday, July 3rd State Holiday

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has declared Monday, July 3rd a state holiday – lengthening the July 4th weekend for non-essential state workers as offices will be closed throughout the state.  The date was not originally listed as a holiday on state calendars.  Ivey issued a memorandum on Tuesday making July 3rd a state holiday.

“All state offices will be closed on that date, except for those in areas where it is essential to maintain personnel,” that, according to the governor in a memo to heads of state agencies – she went on to say “If it is necessary for any employee to work that day, they should be allowed time off as soon thereafter as possible.”

Ivey’s declaration led Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Lyn Stewart to shutter all state courts on Monday.
