Governor Kay Ivey Expresses Support For President Trump’s Declaration of National Emergency

During a press conference in Birmingham Friday (February 15th) – Alabama Governor Kay Ivey told members of the media she supported President Trump’s declaration of a national emergency to fund the building of a wall at the U.S./Mexico border.

Earlier in the day Trump made his announcement  regarding the declaration after Congress passed a spending bill to prevent a government shutdown. The president says that he plans to redirect $3.6 billion in military construction funding, $2.5 billion from the Pentagon’s drug-interdiction program, along with $600 million from the Treasury Department’s asset-forfeiture funds.

Governor Ivey said “We certainly have a problem with security at the border and we need to fix that security problem and so I’m supporting President Trump in his effort to keep our borders safe,” she then went on to say “He declared it, he’s the president, and people that are close to the situation, they know the best.”

Ivey was in Birmingham for a speech before the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama.
