Governor Kay Ivey Will Attend 411 Groundbreaking Ceremony In Cherokee County

CHEROKEE COUNTY – Governor Kay Ivey on Monday will participate in a groundbreaking ceremony for a Rebuild Alabama project for U.S. Highway 411. One of the first Rebuild Alabama projects announced, this will provide Cherokee County with its first four-lane connection to an interstate highway.

The new highway from Turkeytown in Etowah County to west of Leesburg in Cherokee County will complete the four-lane corridor from the county seat at Centre to Interstate 759 and Interstate 59 in Gadsden. Construction is expected to begin next month.

The ceremony will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. The site is approximately 400 yards east of Slackland Baptist Church, located at County Road 20 in Leesburg.

Joining the governor will be Alabama Department of Transportation North Region Engineer Curtis Vincent, as well as other public officials. As the state asks the public to practice social distancing, members of the media, public officials and staff present will also practice social distancing during the event.
