Gowens fans 17 in Spring Garden baseball win over Sylvania

OXFORD — Coming off a no-hit performance in the Cherokee County Tournament against Cedar Bluff, Spring Garden’s Landon Gowens tossed another impressive pitching performance on Tuesday at Oxford’s Choccolocco Park.

Gowens scattered three hits and struck out 17 batters in seven innings in the Panthers’ 7-4 win over Sylvania.

Chapel Pope led the Panther offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs. Ryley Kirk and Jackson Maddox were also 3-for-4.

Grayden Guthrie went 2-for-4. Chaz Pope and Denver Jarrett both singled.

The Panthers (14-8) will be in action again on Thursday at Choccolocco Park against an as-yet-to-be determined opponent.
