GSP Employee Arrested in Connection with Apparently Bogus Armed Gunman Report at Trooper Post in Rome

Apparently, a report of a man walking into the Georgia State Patrol Post #38, located on the Martha Berry Highway in Rome Wednesday, and threatening a female employee with a gun – has turned out to be false.

A 40 year old GSP Administrative Employee at the post, Lisa Stewart of Armuchee, has been placed under arrest and charged with False Report of a Crime.  Floyd County Police said she was taken into custody after officers and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation determined in a relatively short amount of time that the report of an armed gunman was false.

The report led to a manhunt that afternoon by a number of law enforcement agencies – and when they didn’t find the suspect, they began to question Stewart’s story.  According to the docket records at the Floyd County Jail, Stewart has been charged with transmitting a false alarm; false report of a crime; false statements or writings – concealing facts or fraudulent documents in matters of government.

As of yet, no reason has been given for her actions in the matter.
