“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2” conquers the box office for the second straight week; “King Arthur” disappoints

Marvel Studios – 2017(LOS ANGELES) — Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ruled the box office for the second straight week, raking in an estimated $63 million, according to Box Office Mojo. The sequel to Marvel’s first Guardians movie has now topped $630 million worldwide. Marvel, like ABC News, is owned by Disney.

Snatched, the mother-daughter comedy starring Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn, came in a distant second with an estimated $17.5 million haul — far below the $30 million Schumer’s last film, Trainwreck, earned when it debuted in 2015.

King Arthur: The Legend of the Sword, starring Charlie Hunnam and Jude Law, underwhelmed in its opening weekend, earning just $14.7 million, on a reported budget of $174 million for a disappointing third place finish.

The Fate of the Furious dropped to fourth place with an estimated $5.3 million weekend.

Rounding out the top five was The Boss Baby, earning an estimated $4.6 million.

A couple of films opening in limited release also performed well. Lowriders, starring Gabriel Chavarria and Eva Longoria, finished in eighth place, earning $2.4 million from just 295 theaters. Eleanor Coppola’s Paris Can Wait, starring Diane Lane and Alec Baldwin, made in $101,825 from just four theaters.
