Lionsgate(LOS ANGELES) — Days after announcing the date for a threequel for very different project from his past, Bill & Ted Face the Music, Keanu Reeves drops a classic Matrix reference in the new trailer to John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum.
The movie picks up where 2017’s John Wick: Chapter 2 ended, with Keanu Reeves’ titular master assassin fleeing for his life after he’s declared “excommunicado” for violating the rules of the assassins-only hotel The Continental — run by Ian McShane’s elegant, enigmatic Winston — after Wick murders a fellow assassin there.
John enlists the help of fellow assassin Sofia, played by Halle Berry, and, unexpectedly, Winston himself, to set things right.
In fact, when Winston asks him what he needs, Keanu responds: “Guns. Lots of Guns.”
Matrix fans will remember Keanu making the exact same request in The Matrix, before his character Neo and Carrie-Ann Moss’ Trinity storm into a skyscraper to rescue Laurence Fishburne’s Morpheus.
Oh, and Fishburne himself also appears in Parabellum, once again playing the Bowery King in his second John Wick film. Oscar winner Anjelica Huston also stars in the movie, which opens nationwide May 17.
