UPDATE| VICTIM IDENTIFIED: Body Of A Chilton County Man Recovered From Little River Canyon Following a Drowning On Friday

The body of an individual was recovered from Little River Canyon on Friday afternoon after he jumped from the falls and did not resurface.

Cherokee County Coroner Dr. Jeremy Deaton said that a number of agencies assisted in the operation including the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office, the National Park Service, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Fort Payne Fire Department, Fisher High Angle Rescue Team and DeKalb Ambulance Service.

According to Dr. Deaton, the body of 32 year old Carlos Morales Dorotea, was recovered at around 3:30 Friday afternoon. Deaton said Dorotea jumped from a rock near the main falls and landed in a spot where many others have drowned in the past.

National Park Service rangers were joined by rescue teams from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, as well as several agencies in Cherokee and DeKalb counties in the recovery effort.

Deaton said that an ALEA Aviation Unit was called to assist with the recovery operation.
