Hasbro Introduces Robot Dog to Comfort Aging Seniors

Hasbro(NEW YORK) — It’s a pet you don’t have to feed, pick up after, and it’s not a pet rock.

Hasbro has introduced a robotic dog to its Joy for All brand designed to support those who are unable to care for a real pet, but long for the affection of one, particularly seniors.

For $119.99, the Companion Pet Golden Pup has a “realistic coat,” “Barkback” technology that responds to your voice, and sensors that recognize human touch.

If you “slowly and gently” pet the dog’s back, Hasbro says you will feel a “heartbeat sensation.”

After a few minutes of no activity, the pup will go to sleep, but wakes up to motion near it or a pat on the head, according to Hasbro.

“In between naps and being adorable real puppies require a lot of special attention,” Hasbro says on the product page. “HASBRO’S JOY FOR ALL Companion Pet Golden Pup has all the love in the world to give but it won’t chew up your slipper!”

Hasbro revealed a robot cat companion last year that’s sold in “Orange Tabby,” “Creamy White,” and “Silver,” for $99.99.
