A 24 year old DeKalb County woman, who reportedly tested positive for methamphetamine multiple times during her pregnancy, has been charged with the Chemical Endangerment of a Child. 

According to information in the news release from DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris, the child delivered by Jessica Marie Coker of Henagar on August 23rd had indeed been exposed to meth.  The child is expected to make a full recovery.  The Department of Human Resources also worked this case.  Coker could be sentenced to a prison term of up to ten years if convicted of using meth while pregnant.

She was released from the DeKalb County jail after making bond of $7.500.

Chief Deputy Michael Edmondson stated “I want to thank our investigators for doing a great job working with DHR and the hospital staff on this investigation. We are also thankful that the baby will make a full recovery. DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office has a zero tolerance for mothers who use illegal substances while pregnant.”
