UPDATED|Highway 9 South Shutdown After Truck Strikes Power Pole

A single vehicle accident shut down Highway 9 South near Providence Baptist Church in Ellisville at 6:55 a.m. Saturday. 

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Accident report the 2003 GMC truck driven by 53 year old Oxford resident Richard Posey ran off of the road and struck a power pole, breaking in half before coming to rest in the front yard of residence at the edge of a corn field.

Fortunately Posey managed to walk away with only minor injuries and according to the report he was wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred.

The Ellisville Fire Department, Cherokee EMS, the Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency responded to the scene.

Power was knocked out in the area due to the accident and Cherokee Electric crews were called to the scene to replace the broken pole and restore service.
