Highway Dedication Ceremony for David L. Hartline Taking Place Saturday / August 23rd

IMG_1144A local Vietnam veteran and best-selling author will be honored over the weekend as a 14.9 mile stretch of roadway is renamed the David L. Hartline Highway.

That Dedication Ceremony is scheduled for this Saturday (August 23rd) at 2:00pm – taking place at the intersection of Alabama Highways 273 and 35 in the Blanche community.

There will be a reception to follow at the Liberty Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

Among those scheduled to be in attendance are Senator Gerald Dial, Senator Phil Williams, Representative Richard Lindsey, County Commission Chairman Kirk Day, State Department of American Legion Chaplin Duke Martin and many other local and state elected officials.

Armed Forces Day Parade and CookoutHartline served in the United States Army, Reserves and Guard for a total of 23 years, being wounded twice and receiving numerous medals and awards; he has also written three best -selling books based on his military experiences and his first book, entitled “What a Soldier Gives”, is entering its 10th printing.

David Hartline BookHartline has also worked as a college instructor and police officer, and has been a member of a large number of civic and military organizations, including the American Legion where he currently serves as the Alabama Senior Vice-Commander and is scheduled to move up to the position of State Commander next year; he also continues to speak to civic, military and veterans groups across the country.

He was also recently honored as “Veteran of the Year” and “Legionnaire of the Year” by the Alabama American Legion; Hartline was nominated by Cherokee County Post 62, receiving letters of support from Cherokee County Commission Chairman Kirk Day, Centre Mayor Tony Wilkie and Senator Gerald Dial.
