A historic home alongside Highway 411 in Etowah County that has been a familiar sight for those traveling between Centre and Gadsden for generations – is now gone.  The big two-story white home in the 8800 block of 411 went up in flames Monday.  Firefighters were dispatched to the location at around 10:30am but were unable to save the old all-wood home, believed to have built some 200 years ago, from being destroyed.  

Reportedly, some family members had recently been working on the home although no one was actually living there at the time. 

There has been speculation that someone may have broken into the home; the fire is under investigation by the Etowah County Arson task Force.
