Historical Preservation Society Meeting to Feature Sports Hall of Fame Presentation Thursday Night (June 27th)

Everyone is encouraged to stop by the Cherokee County Historical Museum this (Thursday) evening for a very special presentation by Buddy Knapp, on the County Sports Hall of Fame; Knapp is the Museum Sports Room project coordinator, and is extremely well-versed in the colorful history of local sports.

The Baker-Dean Media Award will be presented to two individuals well-known for their outstanding coverage of local sports and their support of sportsmanship and teamwork.

That includes Scott Wright – editor of the Post and the Cherokee County Herald.  The award will also be given posthumously to Mr. Jim Davis, who was associated with WEIS Radio first as an engineer then as the owner – from 1961 all the way up until 1983 – when he sold the station to current owner Jerry Baker.

There will also be two special recognition plaques awarded tonight – honoring each winner as a Cherokee Star: those include TV sports analyst and personality Jon Holder, and beloved local resident Betty White Graves Zoller – the first University of Alabama Cheerleader from Cherokee County, back in 1963.

There will also be a number of other surprises in store.

That meeting is FREE of charge and will begin at 6:00pm
