Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver confirmed to WEIS Radio Wednesday morning that two people were dead after being struck by a vehicle on County Road 22.  

The incident took place just past Pruett’s at Cowan Creek just after 9:40am leaving one man and one woman fatally injured.

It is believed that law enforcement was speaking with a man suspected of being involved in the incident a short time later.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident report (available on Thursday morning), the driver of the vehicle involved, a 1990 GMC, was listed as a 68 year old Centre resident – James Waldrop.  The victims were listed on that report as Timothy Brannon, age 50 of Centre, and Natasha Young, age 27 of Piedmont.
