Holiday Scams Abound

Scam Alert x4Scammers don’t take a rest during the holiday season, if anything they step up the pace and here is the latest example: a Chattooga County, Georgia woman recently reported to local authorities that she’d been receiving calls from someone telling her she had won a pickup, AND several million dollars in cash from something called the PCH Lottery.

She reported speaking with two men, a David Goodman, and a Frank Morgan – who told her that she needed to wire money to a certain address to guarantee that she would receive the money and the vehicle.

She told law enforcement that she had indeed, sent a total of $1,390 to those individuals via Western Union. She also stated that the same people had called back, requesting additional money for delivery of the truck, which they claimed was in Lafayette.

Officers contacted the Western Union Fraud Hotline and gave the number to the victim, so a report could be filed.

Unfortunately, when you send money to someone in such a manner, you’re not going to get it back.

Most of the time that money goes outside of the country, leaving law enforcement unable to help. The only real defense against a scam is not believing everything you hear.

Remember if anyone tells you that you must first pay a fee in order to collect your winnings – it’s a scam.

The complainant gave officers two different numbers that she had been receiving calls from 1-478-020-3530 and 1-867-387-4687. We tried to call those numbers and the calls will not go through, meaning these are fake numbers the scammers are using to run their telephone calls through without being traced.
