According to a report from ABC 33/40 the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office Chief Investigator said they received a call Tuesday afternoon from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office about a missing person’s case.
He said that agency was working on a possible case of murder, and thought a victim may be in Etowah County, due to some information that had been developed over the course of the investigation.
After discovering what could be a potential gravesite late in the day Tuesday, investigators posted officers at the scene until they could return early on Wednesday and then search the area in daylight.
A search conducted by law enforcement from Marshall County, Etowah County and Attalla, in addition to members of the Center for Applied Forensics at Jacksonville State University did turn up human remains from a shallow grave.
The investigation into the matter is on-going.
