Hunter Seriously Injured in Fall from Tree Stand Last Sunday, Now Back at Home and Recovering

The man who fell from a tree stand last Sunday – while hunting near the Cherokee /Etowah County line – is back at home and recovering.

WEIS Radio spoke with the wife of Mitchell East, Lori – Wednesday morning and she told us her husband suffered a number of injuries including a broken upper back and three broken vertebra in his neck, in addition to multiple fractures.

Mrs. East was hunting with her husband at the time of the mishap – and was able to contact first responders for help.  The accident took place around 1:00 that afternoon, with various rescue personnel arriving in under an hour.

East was immediately transported from the scene to the Slackland Baptist Church, where a medical helicopter was waiting to transport him to UAB.  Mrs. East stated that the staff and doctors were incredible and she wished to thank everyone involved in providing assistance – both at UAB and locally – for their outstanding service.

The Cherokee County Rescue Squad, and Floyd EMS – along with members of the Leesburg Fire Department, responded to the scene.

She added her husband Mitchell wanted to stress to everyone no one should go out hunting alone adding accidents do happen and without his wife being there there could’ve very well been a much different outcome to the story.

We wish both he and his wife well during his recovery process.

Mitchell and Lori East are residents of Etowah County.
