Indictment Handed Down In Death Of Floyd County Child

A Floyd County Grand Jury indicted 20-year old David Zachary Gresham on charges of felony murder, malice murder, aggravated battery, first degree cruelty to children, reckless conduct and aggravated assault in connection the death of 3-year-old Ella Camp.

According to warrants issued for Gresham at the time of his arrest, he “maliciously caused bodily harm” to her at an unknown time and place on September 17th, resulting in trauma to her head and body.

Camp was taken to Floyd Medical Center about 11:30 am September 17 and was then air-lifted to Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital where she died two days later.

Gresham has been in custody since September 18 after being picked up for a probation violation. He is currently in the Polk County Jail.

Last month Ella’s mother, 22-year old Kayla Ann Medckie was charged with criminal negligence.

According to a warrant, Ella accused Gresham of inappropriately touching her while in the car. On the day Ella was injured, Medckie put Ella into Gresham’s car.

Gresham has not been charged with sexual abuse.
