According to Sheriff Jeff Shaver, an inmate at the Cherokee County Detention Center is dead as the result of an apparent suicide, occurring Monday afternoon (November 16th).
No additional information is being released at this time.
The State Bureau of Investigation is leading that inquiry, with assistance from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, the Major Crimes Unit, JSU Center for Applied Sciences, and Coroner Jeremy Deaton.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family members.
