Inmate Dies at Chattooga County Jail, Reportedly of Natural Causes

Chattooga County, Georgia Sheriff Mark Schrader has now confirmed that a Cloudland man passed away while in custody at the Chattooga County Jail on Sunday night.

The sheriff said that William Kenneth “Butch” Parker, age 61, had been arrested on a public intoxication charge and an outstanding bench warrant.  He was being held in the medical observation cell, which is equipped with cameras – where he passed away around 11:20 Sunday night.

The sheriff said every indication is that Parker passed away due to natural causes; and, as a part of normal protocol, he has asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to investigate the death.  The sheriff added that he has turned over that video footage from the Chattooga County Jail to the GBI.
