Investigation into the Floyd County Board of Education Theft Case Continues

Floyd County Police continue to recover money connected with the investigation into thefts at the Floyd County Board of Education, and it seems as if there is no end in sight.  That, according to Assistant Police Chief Mark Wallace.

Former Floyd County Board of Education maintenance director Derry Richardson, and nine others, including contractors and members of Richardson’s family, have been charged in a racketeering scheme to steal from the school system.

Investigators have thus far seized a wide variety of items including vehicles, furniture, lawn mowers and tools – and, cash collected as part of the alleged scheme continues to pile up.  Wallace says they have several hundred thousand dollars in a forfeiture account, and added that it’s basically taxpayer money which will be returned to the Board of Education at some point.

Richardson and the nine others charged are out on bond and they have not been indicted as of yet.  Wallace said more arrests are expected.

Police have indicated in previous reports that the thefts total at least $4 million.
