Investigator Jamie Chatman Named New Leesburg Police Chief

During a meeting of the Leesburg Town Council on Tuesday evening, Leesburg Police Investigator Jamie Chatman was appointed as the new Police Chief. Chatman replaces former Chief Brent Grimes who recently announced his retirement earlier this month due to a long battle with a medical condition. 

Chief Chatman was officially sworn-in by Judge Tim Burgess on Wednesday afternoon inside the County Commission Chambers. 

Chatman has been with the Town of Leesburg for 4 years and has served the community throughout as a volunteer firefighter and as a reserve officer at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

Chatman has had the role of Investigator and K-9 handler along with being the Assistant Chief of Police & being appointed to the Cherokee County Major Crimes Unit.

Chief Chatman said that he will  continue to strive to make Leesburg a safe place for people to live and visit through out the year and he looks forward to working with the public and officials in the Town and throughout the county.
