Investigators Hope Guilty Plea Will Lead to Additional Information in Missing Persons Cases

Steed 1Calhoun County authorities are hoping the recent arrest of Jimmy Steed will help shed light on three other investigations involving missing persons.

55 year old Steed pled guilty on December 23rd (2014), to the murder of Carla Cook Fuqua, who went missing back in 2009; her remains were found in a wooded area about two miles from her home on December 4th of 2012.

Now, investigators are hoping to gain information into the disappearances of James Patrick Burrows, Jeffery Scott McFry and Jimmy Steed’s wife, Karen.

Karen Steed29 year old Karen Steed was last seen leaving her home in Piedmont, on November 25th of 1997. Her abandoned car was found approximately one month later, along a stretch of I-20 near Heflin.

23 year old James Patrick Burrows was last seen leaving Steed’s home on his motorcycle on August 23rd of 1990; that motorcycle was later found in a pond near the location that Carla Cook Fuqua’s body was found years later.

Jeffery Scott McFry, age 24 disappeared from his mother’s home in Piedmont on September 5th of 1990.

Calhoun County Chief Deputy Matthew Wade said that Steed is considered a suspect in each of those three cases and he adds that with Steed’s pending sentencing – he hopes someone with information regarding those cases will finally come forward.

In addition to the murder of Fuqua, on December 23rd, Steed entered guilty pleas to a total of 14 counts of manufacturing methamphetamines, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Sentencing for Steed has been set for February 17th.
