ISIS Claims Responsibility for Truck Bomb Attack That Killed More Than 70 in Iraq

iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) —  A truck bomb attack has left dozens dead south of Baghdad in Iraq, local officials said, with many believed to be religious pilgrims from Iran returning from an annual commemoration in the holy city of Karbala.

Initial casualty reports state that more than 70 people are dead and 20 others are wounded, Falah al-Radhi, head of the provincial security committee in the Babylon province, told ABC News.

ISIS took credit for the attack in a short statement made through its Amaq News Agency.

Iraqis were also believed to be among the victims.
