Ivey Study Group Says Poll Results Indicate Strong Desire for State Lottery

A poll conducted for Governor Kay Ivey’s Study Group on Gambling Policy has revealed that there is strong support for a lottery in the state of Alabama; it’s an issue that’s likely to once again come up in the Legislature in early 2021.

McLaughlin & Associates conducted the poll November 17th – 19th – with responses from a total of 500 people who say they plan to vote in the 2022 general election.

The breakdown was as follows:

  • In Favor of: 70.8%
  • In Opposition of: 25%
  • Don’t Know or Refused to Answer: 4.2%.

Alabama is one of only five states with no lottery; however many people cross the state line to play lotteries in the four states that border Alabama.

The poll asked many other questions about gambling in Alabama; the results of the poll, are as follows:

  • In Favor of: 67%
  • In Opposition of: 22.4%
  • Don’t Know or Refused to Answer: 4.2%.

The legislative session begins February 2nd.
