Jerry Seinfeld reportedly being sued for “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee”

NETFLIX(NEW YORK) — Jerry Seinfeld is being sued by a guy who claims the comic stole the idea for his popular web series, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee from him, according to TMZ, but Seinfeld’s lawyer is calling the suit “delusional.”

In a copy of the suit obtained by the gossip website, Christian Charles claims he pitched the idea that became the basis for the show to Seinfeld back in 2003, but Jerry initially wasn’t interested.

Seinfeld reportedly reconsidered in 2011, and after shooting a pilot, his people were eager to move full steam ahead with the project.

The trouble, Charles contends in the lawsuit, began when he claimed partial ownership of the show and demanded to be paid accordingly. That, he alleges, is when Jerry dropped him as a partner and went on to produce the show alone.

Charles is reportedly seeking a “created by” credit, in addition to financial compensation.

In a statement obtained by TMZ, Seinfeld’s attorney, Orin Snyder, calls the lawsuit “delusional,” insisting that Jerry “independently created Comedians in Cars and Mr. Charles only concocted this claim after the show became a commercial success.”

Adds Snyder, “We are confident that this shakedown lawsuit will go nowhere.”

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, distributed by the digital network Crackle for its first nine seasons since 2012, returns for its 10th season later this year on Netflix.
